Meet Us

Carin and Somerled: artists crafting timeless beauty in Sövestad.

Two personalities, one story — Carin’s warmth meets Somerled’s adventurous spirit.

Carin Rexranald

Artistic Background and Training

Carin Rexranald, born in 1949 in the old university town of Lund, is a Swedish artist whose work carries the quiet resonance of tradition and lifelong devotion. Her art is grounded in classical techniques, yet illuminated by a personal sensitivity shaped over decades of exploration and discipline.

Her journey began at Målarskolan Forum in Malmö, under the guidance of the renowned Gerhard Nordström. There she learned not only the craft of painting, but the deeper language of form, light, and expression. Later, at the Akademiet for Fri og Merkantil Kunst in Copenhagen, her artistic world widened, enriching her technique and opening new pathways of inspiration.

Artistic Style and Recognition

Carin’s paintings are known for their quiet depth—works where light and shadow converse softly, and atmosphere rests gently on the canvas. Her oil paintings, created with steady hand and contemplative eye, possess a richness that feels both timeless and immediate.

Her watercolours reveal another side of her artistry: delicate, precise, and breath-like in their transitions of tone. These works reflect a disciplined touch, but also a poetic sensitivity to nuance and detail.

Her work is cherished for its clarity, craftsmanship, and the calm emotion that seems to linger long after the first viewing

Fairyhill Studio and Ongoing Work

Today, Carin resides in Sövestad, just outside Ystad, where her studio Fairyhill rests amidst rolling fields and quiet country roads. It is here, in this gentle landscape, that she continues to paint—drawing inspiration from the stillness, the shifting seasons, and the quiet rhythm of rural life.

Fairyhill is more than a studio; it is a sanctuary for art. Visitors are welcomed into an intimate space where canvases breathe, colours glow, and Carin’s creative process unfolds in its natural environment. It is a place where one can experience her work not only with the eyes, but with a sense of closeness and presence.

Carin Rexranald’s art stands as a poetic tribute to the enduring traditions of oil and watercolour painting. Her works continue to inspire, enchant, and speak—gently, deeply—to all who encounter them.

A Pilgrimage of Creation

Every project begins with a question.
I follow it the way a traveller follows a star —
not to arrive, but to be transformed along the way.

I do not aim to explain the world.
Only to touch it.
Gently.
Truthfully.

Thank you for stepping into this space.
May a spark of Ink & Light find its way into your own imagination.

Somerled Karlsson

The Art of Seeing

To me, photography is a way of listening.
Not to what is loud, but to what is nearly invisible —
the tremor of wind in grass,
the hush between waves,
the brief shimmer of something sacred passing by.

I choose the long moment, where imperfection speaks truth and where grain becomes a kind of memory.

Ink, Story, Light

Writing is the sister to my photography.
Through words I explore the landscapes that light cannot touch —
myth, longing, forgotten stories, the soft crossroads between the ancient and the now.

Art, whether drawn in ink or shaped by light, is a journey inward and outward at once.
A conversation with the unseen.

Meet Somerled

Welcome to Ink & Light — a quiet threshold where images breathe, words listen, and silence carries its own stories.

Who I Am

My name is Somerled Karlsson.
I live on Fairyhill, where the sky opens wide above the southern coast of Sweden.
Here the fields whisper, the sea glimmers at the edge of sight, and the days move with a gentleness that teaches me presence.
All my work begins in this landscape.

The Slow Art of Film

I walk the old paths of analogue photography.
Handmade cameras. Wooden pinholes.
One sheet of film at a time.

Light enters slowly, like a breath.
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is certain.
The image becomes a quiet pact between patience and chance.

In the darkroom, when the first shapes rise from the developer, I am reminded that every photograph is a small miracle — a moment rescued from the river of time.
